August 2022 let go of the past

This month I have experienced a turbulent month. However, after the event I was sound and cleared my mind.

I can not go into great detail. An event occurred and exploded which cause a ripple effect with in the area. For me I had a lot of resent, stress and anxiety. At home I was cursing everyone including me until I felt a trigger. I realise when the trigger went off I was slowly falling into the darkness and it was spreading within me. So, I got my journal out and wrote a letter to the event. I also done a what lessons I have learnt and how I will go round it again. Then I let the event go into the past and healed myself. The next day people are still suffering from the event because they haven’t made peace with it and choose to keep hold of it.

So here are the steps I have done

1, after the event make peace with it

You can write a letter to it and forgive people in that letter.

2, let it go

The longer you keep hold on to the toxic event you will get worst. It will effect your relationships, friendships and anything which you will are bonded with. You will push them away and worst case scenario the bonds will get cut by your own actions.
So let go of it

3, move on from it

Move on from it and leave it in the past. Also use it as a stepping stone to improve yourself.

So reflect, let it go and move on.

Just imagine yourself your on bridge and your carrying a stick. You drop the stick into the river and watch it disappear. That stick is the toxic event.

That’s all I did and if anybody still holds a grudge from it just say let it go and move on otherwise you will lose everything.

Chinese proverbs Part 2

Occasionally I get a box of fortune cookies and open a fortune cookie when I feel like it. Here are the latest ones

1, Don’t think problem, think opportunity

2, an ounce of action is worth a ton of theory

3, the time is always right to do what is right

4, nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.

5, striving for excellence motivate you; striving for perfection is demoralizing

6, to know you have enough are to be rich.

7, what wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?

8, never doubt the possibilities to be, and obstacles will never become a reality

There were two more others but one ripped at one of its ends and couldn’t read it. The other one had no meaning or wisdom to it so didn’t include it on the list.

“do the little things, the small things you’ve seen me doing” – St David

The patron saint of Wales is celebrated on the 1st March.

The factfile

There is not many facts about St David but there are a few undisputed ones;

  • He really existed
  • He was at the heart of the Welsh church in the 6th century
  • He came from an aristocratic family in West Wales
  • His mother was a saint, Saint Non
  • His teacher was also a saint, St Paulinus
  • He founded a large monastery in West Wales
  • He was one of the early saints who helped to spread Christianity among the pagan Celtic tribes of Western Britain
  • He became Archbishop of Wales, but remained in his community at Menevia (now called St Davids)
  • He was active in supressing the Pelagian heresy
  • His shrine became a great place of pilgrimage; four visits to the shrine at St David’s were considered the equivalent of two to Rome, and one to Jerusalem!

It’s a national festival in Wales and many people wear a daffodil or a leek. Another welsh symbol,  y Ddraig Goch (the Red Dragon, Wales’s national flag, also concerts with particularly male voice choirs.

St David’s day begins in welsh primary schools and children dress in traditional costumes

Girls wear a petticoat and overcoat, made of Welsh flannel, and a tall hat, worn over a frilled bonnet.

Boys wear a white shirt, a Welsh flannel waistcoat, black trousers, long wool socks and black shoes.

In both schools the sing welsh songs and dance.

Legends of St David

Pre-birth

His birth was fore told by St Patrick 30 years before David was born.

His birth

His mother Non, daughter of the local chieftain and probably niece of king Arthur was apparently seduced or raped by Sant, son of the king of Cardigan.

Non left her family and gave birth by the sea, it was very intense that her finger marks on the rocks where she grasped the rocks.

A bolt of lightning from the heavens struck the rock and split it in two as David was born. Non became a nun afterwards.

David monk’s life.

His direct teachings, influenced and shaped the spirituality of his time and place, was at the heart of the monastic community he founded known as St David

He believed that the monks should live a harsh life. they worked hard as well as praying and celebrating mass.

He expected the monks to remain silent, except for prayer or in an emergency.

Their diet was only eating only vegetables and bread, and milk and water to drink. St David himself only drank water.

David’s holiness and personal charisma kept  the community together.

His life was attempted by one of his monasteries as they tried to poison him. he was warned by St scuthyn who travelled by a sea monster. He blessed the poison bread and ate it with no harm came to him.

In his last sermon David told his monks to “do the little things, the small things you’ve seen me doing”.

How to grow your talent?

image

‘There were two vegetable growers and they both entered in a competition which is happening in a couple of month’s time. Sarah plants her seed and watered it after two weeks the novelty wore off and once in a while she attends to it. Sofia planted hers and watered her and consistently checks it. Judging day arrives and the two vegetable growers taken their chosen vegetables to the judging area and walked away. The judges looked at them and wrote their observations down. They went to the microphone and announced “Vegetable A looks like it’s been abandon and left. Poor vegetable the best place for it is the compost heap or the bonfire. Vegetable B looks like it’s been cared for with such passion. The winner is vegetable B well done.”

Sofia deserves to win this by nurturing and raising her vegetable.

Also other people did the same nurturing and raising their talents. Jessica Ennis, Usian Bolt, Sir Steve Redgrave, Katie Melua, Roger Federer, Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci, David Tennant and the list goes on.

All they did was they started from scratch and grew their talents by, consistently attending, nurturing, and throughout time the talent slowly matures however, it stills continues to grow.

The main elements that help it to grow are;

· Attendance

· Nurture

· Time

Try adding the main elements to your talent and who knows what you achieve.

Looking after yourself. (New year resolution part 1)

image

Although some mental illnesses may be genetically predetermined, or otherwise unavoidable, there are ways to keep the blues at bay and make sure your mind and body stay healthy and happy,’ – Thesite.org

Making new year’s resolution and keeping them are a hard thing to do so I made two and replaced my old traditional one ‘no smoking’ (By the way I never smoked)

The two I made are:

  1. Look after yourself
  2. Grabbing opportunities

(The second one is different post.)

I believe if you can’t look after yourself, how you can look after your family, friends, and loved ones. So a few tips on looking after yourself

Eat well and keep fit

Eating regular, healthy meals and doing exercises can make a difference in your mood and gives you a confidence boost. Also you will feel more energetic, look fit and tone. So here is a 3, 2, 1 challenges! 3 = meals, 2 = snacks, 1 = litre of water

Do something you love

Firstly write a list of all the things you love doing. Then do one small thing every day and have bigger things to look forward as well. Hobby and interests is great it keeps your mind going plus you have something to do in your time but, don’t allow it to take over your life, otherwise ten hobbies could end up being one!

Make lots of friends

Get out and meet new people but remember avoid people who drag you down all of the time and never give anything back in return. Always seek out people who support, feel inspired and make you laugh.

Learn to handle stress

Never be afraid of any challenges, overcome them will help you increase your confidence. Learn some techniques to help you relax like meditation, rather than slothing out or getting drunk.

Big yourself up

Make a list of all the good qualities and get a friend to help you. You will be surprised how long it will turn out and you can use it to remind yourself from time to time.

Stay out of a downwards spiral

Don’t dwell on negative things you will spiral down and may end up being depress. Avoid sitting around doing nothing for days. Keep busy, think positive, and relax yourself.

Keep your brain active

Never stop learning new skills, refresh your other skills, and teach your skills to others.

Don’t worry, be silly

Ignore the unimportant things that niggle you, break large unpleasant tasks down into small, digestible chunks. Also have a sense of humour and try to see the funnier side if situations.

A farmer and his two fields

image

‘A farmer sown seeds in two fields and began work on them. Few months later, he noticed one was barren and the other was producing fruit. So he put all his effort into the fruitful field and cut his lost on the barren. Few months later he produced a good fruitful yield’

I made this parable to sum up an everyday event. Yes we not farmers in a field but in a way we are. I’ll put it in another perspective from a tweet on twitter.

‘Wasting time on empty things/people produce nothing. Spending time on true things/people produce fruitful yield’ – Riedal1 (my account)

Most of us spend time on projects, people, and items and in return get nothing back! So how about stop spending time on the wasters and concentrate on projects, people, and items that give you something back in return like in the parable above. Remember though it takes time to find out what is producing fruit and taking your time from you.

Boosting your memory

image

Have I locked the front door? What’s that person’s name? Where do I put those keys? When that persons birthday?

These questions are the most familiar ones we come across our daily lives. If it’s hard remembering and answering these questions then the World Memory Championships are out of the question since its memorizing words, decks of cards and numbers.

As I am trying to improve my brain mainly in Logic, Maths, Memory, Visual, and Focus, hoping to have a healthier mind and seeing if a myth is true ‘your only psychic if you use all parts of the brain’

Here are tips that will improve your memory:

Don’t cram

Never cram anything in one day instead spread it out into many days or weeks.

Use Images

Another way to remember something is to use pictures like if you met a person called Joe Well, imagine a well. You can get more creative with unusual names. Also the best thing is imagining is another part of your mind activated.

Create Cues

If you got something to do like taking a pill at a certain time, create a cue like watching your favourite program then after it ends take your pill.

Chunk it

If you have long bits of information like numbers or music sheets. Break it up into chunks. Like for example 87802345522340 break it into sections like 87 80 23 45 52 23 40

Be boring

The best way to remember stuff by putting them in the same place every time. Like for example I put my works stuff (clock card, dairy, cardinals card, cutter and keys to locker) in a neat pile on the table.

Omega –3

Omega-3, found mainly in oily fish (sardines and mackerel etc) as well as walnuts, pumpkin seeds, helps to build and maintain Myelin. Myelin in a fatty substance that helps the nervous system which fires up your concentration.

Healthy Diet

Eating eggs, liver, chicken and soybeans, can help to protect the brain and boost memory. Also eating dark leafy vegetables, berries, tomatoes, nuts and seeds are all good memory foods

Get Teaching

After learning something new teach to a friend or family because it will recollect the materials you have learnt.

Write

Write information down instead of hammering at the keyboard helps your brain process the information. So get scribbling when learning

Repeat Again

Repeat information again (or verbal drilling it) can help it to stick it in there.

Challenge Yourself

Engaging activities that require your concentration like Sudoku, new language or new recipes helps you maintain your skills as you grow older.

Meditate

This helps you relax as well as helping your decision making, attention and memory. Focus on an image, sound or your own.
